Marxism
Summar
An ideology by Karl Marx and Federich Engels.
- Federich Engels lived during the 1800 Industrial Revolution – workers were either replaced by machines or treated very poorly - there was no protection against workplace injuries, low pay, long hours - farmers had to rent land from landowners, who could raise prices at any time - despite the farmers being the ones doing all the hard work - it was a rich vs poor, business owner vs worker, have vs have-nots society
- in response, he wrote books about his observations on society – including a book criticising capitalism and its exploitation and excesses
- he proposed an alternative society in which there was no rich/poor or class, called a ‘Communist Manifesto’
- ‘Equality for All’
- it was very appealing to many people, especially to educated revolutionaries
- he proposed an alternative society in which there was no rich/poor or class, called a ‘Communist Manifesto’
- this book was deemed 'dangerous' – it called for class warfare, for the poor to overthrow the rich
- it was dangerous to capitalism, basically
- it would’ve turned society upside down – the poor would hold power rather than the rich
