- 21 November 1954: Formation of the People’s Action Party
- 1955: Limited Self-Government Election; Singapore’s first
- PAP lost
- They didn’t have enough time to prepare, having just formed in 1954
- 1959: Internal self-government for Singapore was attained
- Singaporeans now have the right to vote
- They also had more control over government (more local involvement)
- 1959: PAP won 43 of 51 seats
- The PAP was the first local government following attainment of internal self-government
- 30 May 1959: Lee Kuan Yew became Singapore’s first prime minister
